A design (form, shape, pattern, etc.) may be registered through the international design registration process (Hague System) such as a trademark may be registered through the Madrid System or a Patent through PCT.
Currently, 66 member states belong to this international agreement. It allows to register up to 100 Designs within the same product class in the countries of your choice (which are also member states of the Hague System) by one single filing at the international design office in Geneva (WIPO). Further, it enables a centralized management of cost-effective application procedures, renewal of protection as well as amendments in the design register.
Contrary to the trademark protection a design has not to be registered in advance in the country of origin (base registration). Your design may be registered directly in the chosen countries by one single filing.
As mentioned above only member states may profit from the Hague System. Your or your company’s domicile is not located in one of the member states? We may offer you various solutions. Please contact us for further information.
